Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months
19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.
The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.
Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court after that period of the previous year.
The win also means he has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
The player's defensive strategy and frequent reactions on court had led commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
The opponent saved 4 early chances in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.
Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
